The field of People Analytics is rapidly growing. It is projected to be the 2nd fastest growing role in the U.S. in 2023 (LinkedIn 2023). As more data becomes available, organizations have access to a wealth of information to inform their decisions. However, simply having data is not enough to make confident decisions. In fact, a key aspect of making effective decisions is having clarity on the values of the organization. As Brian Tracy said, "The only way to make a decision with confidence is to have clarity on your values."

So, what does it mean to have clarity on the values of the organization? Simply put, it means understanding what is important to the organization. This includes the mission, vision, and core values, as well as people-related priorities such as employee engagement, retention, and development.

When organizations understand their values, they can use data in a more meaningful way. They can interpret the data in light of their values and use it to make decisions that align with their priorities. For example, if employee engagement is a key value, organizations can use data on engagement levels to identify areas for improvement and make decisions that prioritize engagement. On the other hand, when organizations lack clarity on their values, they may make decisions that are shortsighted or even detrimental to the organization in the long run.

People Analytics can provide organizations with a wealth of information to help inform their decisions. However, data alone is not enough to make confident decisions about your workforce. To make effective decisions, organizations tie their data to their priorities and objectives. By having a set of guiding principles organizations can use data impactfully.
